All methods of turn of windows autoupdate

Introducing Windows 11 | Windows Experience Blog

There are several methods you can use to turn off automatic updates in Windows:

  1. Use the Settings app: You can use the steps I provided earlier to turn off automatic updates using the Settings app. This is the recommended method as it allows you to still receive notifications when updates are available and choose when to install them.

  2. Use the Group Policy Editor: If you have a version of Windows that includes the Group Policy Editor (such as Windows 10 Pro), you can use this tool to disable automatic updates. To do this, press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box, type “gpedit.msc” (without the quotes) and press Enter. In the Group Policy Editor, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update. Double-click on the “Configure Automatic Updates” policy and select “Disabled” from the drop-down menu. Click OK to save the changes.

  3. Use the Registry Editor: You can also use the Registry Editor to disable automatic updates. To do this, press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box, type “regedit” (without the quotes) and press Enter. In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Right-click on the Windows key and select “New > Key”. Name the new key “WindowsUpdate”.

Right-click on the WindowsUpdate key and select “New > Key”. Name the new key “AU”.

Right-click on the AU key and select “New > DWORD (32-bit) Value”. Name the new value “NoAutoUpdate”.

Double-click on the NoAutoUpdate value and set its value to 1. Click OK to save the changes.

Note: Disabling automatic updates using the Registry Editor or Group Policy Editor is not recommended, as it can leave your computer vulnerable to security risks. It is generally best to use the Settings app to turn off automatic updates and still receive notifications when updates are available.
